Who is Carolina Marin?

Carolina is a badminton player and was born on 15 June 1993. She is a left handed player and stands 172 cm tall. Marin held second position in the World by Badminton World Federation in the women’s singles.

She won her first women’s singles gold in the year 2016 at Rio Olympics after defeating Indian Badminton player, P.V Sindhu.

Early life of Carolina Marin

Carolina was born on 15 June 1993 and a Spanish badminton player. Her real full name is Carolina María Marín Martín.

Carolina was not interested in badminton when she was small. In-fact, she was more interested in flamenco dancing. It was only when a friend of her asked her once to come to the local sports hall and take part in badminton.

Later she had to decide her career between dancing and badminton and she chose the later. To pursue her career, she left her home in Spain at the age of 14 and moved to Madrid and started playing at the national high performance centre.

Game Type of Carolina Marin

She is a powerful smash player and play very strongly at cross court. Her left-handed game helps her to make different angles against her opponents. She considers Rafael Nadal as her favourite player and her game also plays like him from the back of the court.

She is very aggressive player and keeps a winning approach till the end of the game. She had to struggle a lot in the final of Rio Olympics 2016 against PV Sandhu but kept her aggressive and positive approach till the end.

Badminton Career of Carolina Marin

  • Carolina became the first Spanish badminton and won silver medal at the 2009 European Junior Badminton championships.
  • The same year, she won a gold medal at the 2009 European U17 Badminton Championships.
    Marin won the 2013 London Grand Prix Gold
  • She defeated Li Xuerui from China in the BWF World Championships singles on 31 August 2014.
  • Carolina became became the youngest European world champion at the age of only 21.
  • The next year, on 8 March 2015, she won the All England title. This made her to push to rank 4 in the world ranking.
  • On 5 April 2015, at the 2015 Malaysia Open, she defeated Li Xuerui and won her second straight super premier series title. The same year, on 16 August, Saina Nehwal of India lost to her in 21-16, 21-19.
  • She won gold medal in Rio Olympics on 19 August 2016 by defeating P.V Sindhu in the final match with a score of 19-21, 21-12, 21-15.
  • Till date Carolina has 415 wins, 116 losses in badminton singles in her name
  • 2020: Carolina won Thailand Open Super 1000 title by defeating world number 1 Tai Tzu-ying
