Reason 1: Allergic Rhinitis

Sometimes our body is allergic to some allergens like, pollen, dusts, cat saliva etc. And when your body comes in contact with any allergen, then it produces histamine to protect itself. This can result in some symptoms, like running nose, sneezing, itching eyes and coughing.

This can happen to anyone but you have more chances of this if it runs in your family.

Reason 2: Not drinking enough water

Every person should try to drink as much water as possible as it helps in cleaning out toxins from human body. And if you have a flu or cold then the need of water increases.  Water, juice, soups can help a lot in loosening mucous in your wind pipes and help it move out of your system. Stay away from alcohol and aerated drinks as they can dehydrate you. You can use saline nasal spray also to moisturize your airways or can use a humidifier.

Reason 3: Stress

Try to calm and reduce stress, as this can worsen your condition and make it more chronic. Give your body a good 7 to 8 hours sleep as this could be the best way to keep your body and mind at relax.

Reason 4: Bacterial Infection

A bacteria can cause sinus, bronchitis and pneumonia when your airways are week and still fighting with cold and cough. Keep an eye and mind that if you have fever and cough, it could be due to bacterial infection. You need to see your doctor you can prescribe you an antibiotic.

Reason 5: Use of certain medications

If you use some medicines like, Aceon, Accupril, Vasotec, Monopril etc. which are Blood Pressure inhibitors and used for high blood pressure, then this could also be the cause of your prolonged cough not going away.One common trick to change if a medicine is an ACE inhibitor used for high blood pressure is to check if it or any of its salt or ingredients ends with “prill”. And if does, then there are more chances that it is an ACE inhibitor.

Reason 6: Gastroesophageal reflux disease

This disease is called GERD in short and result due to the stomach acid that enters and flows back into the pipe that connects our stomach and esophagus (throat).This can cause your cough a chronic one and worsens your condition. So take care of your stomach acid and stay away from the food items that can result in the formation of more stomach acid.
