Aarushi Talwar-Twin Murder Case

A little girl who had seen just 14 summers of her life,  and was full of life was found lifeless in her room on the night of May 15-16, 2008. The deceased girl was Aarushi Talwar who was the only child of her well-educated parents, and who was 8 days short of her 15th birthday.

The case that started 9 years back with the prime suspect her parents could not be sorted out as the CBI could not collect any strong evidences against the charge.

Not only Aarushi, but their domestic help, Hemraj was also found dead on their terrace with the door locked from inside. His body was also found slit with a “surgical precision “.

Aarushi Talwar was found dead in her bedroom. Her throat was slit with a surgical blade. The domestic help of Talwar’s family, Hemraj was suspected by the police at the first point but the next day his body was also found on the terrace. The door of the terrace was found locked from inside.

His throat was also slit and had injuries to his head along with the wounds all over the body.

The talwar parents, Rajesh and Nupur were both medical practitioners. Once the dead body of Hemraj was found with their throats slit with “surgical precision”, police suspected it could be a case of honor killing. They might have seen Hemraj and Aarushi in some objectionable position but could not collect the evidence to substantiate the claim.

Police arrested Rajesh Talwar for this double murder case of Aarushi and Hemraj. The case was later handed over to the CBI.

Another lie detector test was conducted on Nupur talwar on 25 June 2008.

Rajesh Talwar came out of the jail on bail after spending around two months in the jail for the twin murder case.

December 2010

CBI tried to find the real culprit and collect the evidences from all the angles but could not find the strong evidence against any prime suspects. At the time of murder, two other servants were also present in the house. And, there were proved that they had liquor in the night of the murder happened.

CBI could not get any evidence against Rajesh Talwar also, so submitted a closure report on the ground of insufficient evidences. Though CBI named Rajesh Talwar as the prime suspect but did not take them in the custody due to lack of any strong evidence.

The CBI submitted the closure report in the court but the court said the case could not be closed.

November 25, 2013

CBI judge Shyam Lal convicted the parents and held them responsible for the twin murder and destruction of the evidences from the place of murder.

The judge wrote in the verdict, “The parents are the best protector of their own children and that is the order of the human nature, but they have been freaks in the history of mankind when the father and mother became the killer of their own progeny. They have extirpated their own daughter who has seen 14 summers of her life and the servant, without compunction from terrestrial terrain in breach of commandment that ‘thou shall not kill’ and the injunction of the holy Quran ‘take not life, which god has made sacred’.

Even though the CBI could not bring the strong evidences against the prime suspects but the CBI court awarded life imprisonment to the parents after few days. The couple filed an appeal in the Allahabad  High Court challenging the CBI court’s verdict.

September, 2017

A division bench comprising justices B K Narayana and A K Mishra had reserved its judgement on September, 2017 on the appeal of the dentist parents. It fixed October 2017 to give the final verdict in the case.

October 12, 2017

The final day of the judgement in Aarushi Talwar Murder Case. The parents were cleared of the case and given verdict in their favour.
