Same way we shall overcome this pandemic bravely, rising a world entirely different from today- more compassionate, peaceful, patient and humane.

What is the History of Easter Day?

Jesus was beaten , tortured, crucified  and buried by the Romans at Calvary c. 30 AD.(celebrated as Good Friday), in a tomb where his body lies throughout the next day (Holy Saturday). The next day tomb was found empty. Jesus has been resurrected ! That day is celebrated as Easter, first time some 2,000 years ago, God the Father raised Jesus from the dead. The account is found in all four Gospels of the New Testament in the Bible.

Easter is also called Pascha (Greek, Latin). It is the culmination of the Passion of Jesus, preceded by Lent (or Great Lent), a 40-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance.

Easter Egg and Easter Bunny

Easter Bunny and Easter Eggs forms the integral pat of Easter celebrations, derived from ancient, pagan traditions. Eastre’s pagan symbol was the rabbit or hare. Egg symbolise rebirth  and resurrection for Christian community, so well decorated eggs and egg hunting have become very important in Easter.

The custom of the Easter egg originated in the early Christian community of Mesopotamia, who stained eggs red in memory of the blood of Christ, shed at his crucifixion. As such, for Christians, the Easter egg is a symbol of the empty tomb. The oldest tradition is to use dyed chicken eggs, but a modern custom is to substitute decorated chocolate, or plastic eggs filled with candy such as jellybeans.

The Easter Bunny, or “Easter Hare”, is a symbol of fertility, as rabbits have often multiple births.  German settlers brought the Easter Bunny tradition to America in the 1700s.

Easter gift-giving character analogous to Santa Claus in American culture. Many children around the world follow the tradition of coloring hard-boiled eggs and giving baskets of candy.

In countries where Christianity is a state religion, or where the country has large Christian population, Easter is often a public holiday. As Easter is always a Sunday, many countries in the world also have Easter Monday as a public holiday.
