Wear Inline Skate Protective Accessories – Your Skin Will Thank You

Inline Skates

Safety first is always my motto, and it’s likely that most or all of your professional inline skating will take place on a concrete, asphalt, brick, wood, or rubber surface. Bare skin will not slide on these surfaces!! The result: road rash or broken bones.

Preventing road rash is simple. Always invest in proper skate protective gear, and wear it! Don’t go cheap either. After your first tumble, you’ll be happy that you invested in quality with your:

  • Wrist Guards
  • Elbow Pads
  • Knee Pads
  • Helmet

Wrist GuardsWrist Guards

There are several variations in wrist guard design. The common element is the plastic “skid pad” worn on the palm of the hand.

Other guards have an additional piece of plastic covering the top of the hand, wrist, and part of the forearm which prevents the wrist from bending too far backwards.

The purpose of the wrist guard is to protect the palm of your hands, allow for flexing of the wrist, and make it possible for your arms to slide upon impact with the ground.

Elbow PadsElbow Pads

Make sure your elbow pads cover the sides of your elbows and fasten securely.

Knee Pads

Knee Pads

Your knee pads should offer some wrap around protection to the side of the knees and ensure that they fasten securely. You don’t want them coming loose when you hit the ground.

Helmets

Skate Helmets

The main reason for wearing a helmet is obvious. Another important advantage of wearing a helmet is that it makes you much more visible when you’re skating in traffic or congested areas. You can make yourself even more visible by putting bright colored reflective safety markings on your helmet.

Although inline companies make their own helmets, you can also use bicycle or skiing helmets.

Inline Safe and Minimize Injury

If you wear skate protective equipment, you’ll be able to focus on your skating, and not on the risk of getting badly injured in your occasional, but inevitable fall.
