Wangari Maathai- Renowned First African Activist Who Got Nobel Prize

Wangari Muta Maathai- was born in April 1940. She was a renowned social activist who started a green belt in the year 1977. Around 30 million of trees were planted in the movement.

Wangari Maathai was a Kenyan social activist. She was also the first African woman who ever won the Nobel Prize.

She was one of the most qualified woman and earned a Bachelor’s Degree at Mount St. Scholastica.  She got her Master’s Degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

Wangari also earned her Ph.D from the University of Nairobi in Kenya.

She died on 25 September, 2011 at the age of 71.
