The Patiala House Court on Thursday granted anticipatory bail to Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, two days before he was scheduled to appear as an accused for allegedly abetting the suicide of his wife, Sunanda Pushkar.

Samar Vishal, the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate has issued this bail and summoned an order to Mr. Tharoor to produce himself in the court on July 7.

The court has issued the bail on terms that Shashi Tharoor would not leave the country without permission. Also, he would pay a bail bond of Rs. 1 Lakh in case he is arrested.
It is reported that Tharoor’s then wife Sunanda Pushkar was found dead in Leela Hotel suite number 345 four years ago. The police has filed a charge sheet in the court that Sunanda had committed suicide by taking overdose of anti-depressant pills and her husband was responsible for her to take this extreme step.
The Judge Samar Vishal said, “I have heard the prosecutor. I have gone through and perused the charge sheet and the documents filed along with it. On the basis of police report (charge sheet), I take cognizance of offence of abetment of suicide of late Sunanda Pushkar and committing cruelty upon her by Dr Shashi Tharoor. He further said, there exists sufficient grounds to proceed against Tharoor for commission of offences of Section 306 and 498 A of IPC. Issue summons to him for appearance for July 7.”
