Legends of Baba Bokh Nagh Devta

According to legend, it is believed that Lord Narayana and Lord Shri Krishna’s divine presence led to the creation of a precious gem, Baba Baukh Nath, also known as Baba Baukh Nag. 🙏 Praise be to Baba Baukh Nag. The temple dedicated to Baba is situated on the highest peak of the Ravanee Ghati, known as Baukh Dada. This sacred place is referred to as Baukh Nag Tibba Tirth Dham, and a fair is held here every three years.

As per the ancient scriptures and oral traditions, during the Mahabharata era, after the conclusion of the battle of Kurukshetra, Lord Shri Krishna turned towards the mountains for peace. He rode his chariot to the elevated summit of Baukh Nag Tibba, where Baba Baukh Nag Temple now stands. During this time, Lord Krishna spent some moments on the Baukh Nag Tibba mountain. It was here that, to the tune of a flute, the Lord witnessed the emergence of a serpent, known as Basuriya Nag. Later, it was revealed that this serpent was none other than Baukh Nag. Subsequently, Lord Krishna saw a distant mountain that appealed to him. This mountain, named Sem Mukhim, became a significant location. Lord Krishna descended there and made it his abode.

From that time onwards, the area around Sem Mukhim became holy. On this mountain, there resides Nag Raj Sem Mukhim, where an annual fair, known as Baba Baukh Nag Tibba Mela, takes place. This fair alternates between Sem Mukhim and Baukh Nag Tibba each year. The third year sees the fair being held at both mountainous locations. Thousands of pilgrims visit these sacred places to seek blessings, and from Baukh Dada Tirth, they also get a view of the Yamuna and Ganga rivers.

The idol of Baba Baukh Nag originated in the Kapnaul village during ancient times. Chheda Maharaj is considered the divine messenger of Baba Baukh Nag. The annual fair of Baba Baukh Nag is celebrated in various villages, including Badkot Pati Mugarsanti Pati, from June 14 to June 25.

Baba Baukh Nag has four abodes in Kapnaul village, Bhatiya village, Kanseru village, and Nandgaon. The yearly residence of Baba in each village is rotational. The priests of Baba Baukh Nag in the Bhatiya village belong to the Dimari caste, and they are responsible for the worship.

Moreover, Baba Baukh Nag has appointed “Vazeer” from the Bhatiya Kanseru community, and “Butola Rawat” from the Kafonol village’s Rajput community, “Panwar Chauhan Kafola Bandhu.”

This sacred place holds significant cultural and religious importance, attracting devotees from various regions during the annual fairs.
