Empanada – Pastry type Course, Know all about it

An Empanada is actually a type of baked/fried product consisting of mainly pastry or stuffing like that.

It is famous in various parts of the World like Southern Europe, Latin America or Philippines etc. But the main origin of this recipe is Galicia.

The stuffing used in Empanada could be of meat, cheese, corn, vegetables like tomatoes etc. This stuffing is then wrapped or covered with bread. Empanada is made by baking or frying in oil.

Empanada word originated from the verb empanar that means enreaded.

How is the taste of Empanada?

Taste of Empanada depends upon the stuffing that has been used in its making.

They could be salty because of the presence of spicy vegetables like ground chilies, potatoes or tangy due to tomatoes. Salta are normally juicy and spicy in taste. On the other hand Jujuy empanada uses peas and garlic which has different taste. The filling used in them is called simbado.

Some people like to have eggs as the stuffing in empanada which are mainly famous with name La Rioja .

Depending upon the usage of stuffing whether it is oregano, peeled tomatoes, wine, vegetables, garlic, boiled eggs, cumin, chili etc. the taste varies and that makes them call with different names too.

Empanada Day – 8 April

Every year, on 8 April the world celebrates Empanada day. People make different types of Empanada on this day and those who don’t cook they eat and enjoy the taste.
