Santoor’s journey to Indian Classical from Sufi music

Santoor was initially not a part of Indian classical music. It was mostly played in Kashmir and was a part of Sufi music. It was not at the same level as Sarod or Sitar were. The whole credit of bringing it into the classical music category goes to Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma. He modified the instrument and tried every bit to make it as par as the other classical instruments.
