Symptoms of Zika Virus

Experts believe that the symptoms of Zika virus disease start appearing within 3 to 14 days after the mosquito bite as this is caused by the mosquito bite. These symptoms usually last for 2 to 7 days. According to the World Health Organization, most people who are infected with the Zika virus do not have symptoms.

What causes Zika virus?

There is no cure or vaccine for Zika virus as such currently. It is better to keep precautions and be alert against this disease. Once the symptoms are seen, Zika virus can be diagnosed with the help of a blood test.

Some of the important precautionary steps against Zika virus:

  1. See a doctor immediately if symptoms appear so that treatment can be started as soon as possible
  2. If the infection is confirmed, take maximum rest with medicines
  3. Take lots of water to replenish your body
  4. Take medicines only on the advice of a qualified doctor
  5. To avoid the risk of bleeding, do not take aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) until it is confirmed that you do not have dengue
  6. If you are already taking medicines for any disease, be sure to consult your doctor before taking any other medicines
  7. Avoid travelling to places where the cases of Zika virus transmission are found
  8. Avoid stagnant water and keep cleaning your coolers, pots or any place where the changes of water collection are more
  9. Wear full clothes and cover your body properly and especially your kids

First Zika virus case in India

In India the first case of Zika virus was confirmed in Karnataka’s Raichur district. A five year old girl was found infected with this virus on 12 December, 2022.
